U.S. Representative Buddy Carter (R-GA) recently joined the Georgia Congressional Delegation in observing a moment of silence on the House floor. This solemn occasion was held to honor three Army Reservists, Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, who tragically lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Jordan.
According to a press release from Carter’s office, the representative expressed his sorrow over this tragic event. “It’s a heartbreaking time for our community, mourning the loss of three bright individuals who had their lives ahead of them,” said Carter. “Our brave service members put their lives on the line every day, and we owe our freedoms and security to them. Both Spc. Sanders and Spc. Moffett were from the First Congressional District of Georgia, and we will miss them dearly. I’m glad that our heroes got the recognition they deserve on the House floor. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and the Georgia community during this time.”
Fox News reports that these soldiers were part of the 718th Engineer Company, 926th Engineer Battalion, 926th Engineer Brigade based at Fort Moore in Georgia. They were deployed to Jordan as part of Operation Inherent Resolve and the international coalition against ISIS. The Biden administration has attributed these terrorist attacks to Iran-backed militia groups. Since October 17, there have been 165 attacks across Iraq, Syria, and Jordan; with one recent incident at Tower 22 in Jordan causing over 40 injuries – eight people required medical evacuation while one remains in critical but stable condition.
John Kirby, National Security Council spokesman commented on this situation during an interview with AP News: “There’s no easy answer here,” he said “And that’s why the president is meeting with his national security team weighing the options before him.”
