FOIA Request to Liberty County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Coastal GA News have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request was made for records pertaining to the upcoming spring elections in Georgia.
Specifically, we asked for a list of all candidates running in these elections. The information requested includes the candidates' first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
In addition to this, we also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
