Walter Rafolski, incumbent member of the Glynn County Board of Commissioners, is seeking the Republican nomination for re-election to his at-large seat for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on May 21.
Rafolski is running for re-election in the GOP primary against Elizabeth Atkins and Julian "Puddy" Smith.
According to the Glynn County Board of Commissioners' website, Rafolski has served on the Board of Commissioners since 2021, and he has served as Vice Chair of the Board since 2023.
If he were re-elected, Rafolski said he would focus on completing the SPLOST projects from the 2022 SPLOST, complete the ordinance rewrite, improve local infrastructure, and attract new businesses to the area.
Rafolski's page on the Glynn County Board of Commissioners' website notes that he currently serves on the Board of Directors of All Pro Corp. as well as on the Board of 25 Timber Co., and he is a former Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator with the Knights of Columbus. He also served for 13 years on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Rafolski did retail sales for 22 years on St. Simons Island, and he is the President of Adelaide's Paint and Decor.
Rafolski and his wife Sandra have two daughters and four grandchildren.
In a press release, RED PAC Chief Strategist Charlie Kolean endorsed Barber as a candidate that understood "the importance of protecting private property rights, ensuring government transparency, exercising fiscal responsibility, and fostering economic opportunity." Kolean expressed confidence that Barber's continued leadership will help Decatur County flourish.
As the Glynn County Board of Commissioners' website explains, the commissioners are charged with "establishing policy for county operations, enacting ordinances and resolutions to promote the county's health, safety, and welfare, and approving the annual budget which funds the operations of the constitutional officers as well as the departments under the Board's jurisdiction." The Board comprises seven members who serve staggered four-year terms, with five members each representing one district and two members serving at-large. Every two years, the board chooses a chair.
