Governor Brian Kemp has announced that Daechang Seat Corp. USA, an automotive seat frame supplier, will invest $72.5 million in the Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center, creating over 500 jobs in Chatham County. Daechang Seat Corp. is a global company with a focus on automotive seat frames and aims to expand with this new facility. The company's expansion aligns with Georgia's efforts to attract investments in the automotive industry, resulting in substantial job growth and significant investments in recent years.
In a press release by the Governor's Office, Governor Brian Kemp said: "Today’s news of another HMGMA supplier coming to Georgia is just the latest reminder of the impact projects like the Hyundai Metaplant have beyond their initial investment. To date, suppliers for this project alone reach at least nine counties, and we're excited to add Daechang Seat Corp. USA to our growing manufacturing base centered around Chatham County and the Savannah region."
Daechang Seat Company (DSC) specializes in manufacturing seat frames, particularly for Hyundai and Kia vehicles. Their products incorporate innovative mechanisms to reduce weight and cost while enhancing the recliner and lumbar support. The company provides comprehensive manufacturing processes, including raw material stock, plastic surgery, welding, assembly, and testing.
The new facility in the Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center will hire assembly operators, equipment technicians, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers through local job fairs and online postings.
Griff Lynch, President and CEO of the Georgia Ports Authority, highlighted DSC's strategic location near the Port of Savannah and its potential to leverage Georgia's connectivity for U.S. supply chains. Trip Tollison, President and CEO of the Savannah Economic Development Authority, expressed enthusiasm for DSC's arrival at the Savannah Chatham Manufacturing Center, emphasizing the significant job creation and capital investment it brings to Chatham County.
The Governor's Office notes that Georgia has been actively developing its entire supply chain in response to the transition in the automotive market towards electric vehicles. The state has attracted more than $25 billion in investments and generated 30,000 jobs since 2018. In fiscal year 2023, job creation within the automotive industry increased significantly by 324 percent compared to FY21, with suppliers drawn to Georgia's mobility original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), resulting in over $2 billion in investments across the state in FY23.
