Georgia Fire Chief Certifications

The Camden County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce that Camden County Fire Rescue (CCFR) Chief Terry Smith achieved recertification and Deputy Chief Lisa Boyett achieved Georgia Fire Chief Certification from the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs (GAFC).

“We continue to be proud of our leadership at Camden County Fire Rescue,” said County Administrator Shawn M. Boatright. “Both Chief Smith and Chief Boyett demonstrate outstanding service and professionalism to the citizens of Camden County.”

Applicants for the Georgia Fire Chief Certification must meet four pre-requisites, including holding a Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council State Certification in at least one of the current Fire Service Certifications and serving as a minimum of a Battalion Chief or Division Supervisor.

Certification candidates are also assessed on a point system that includes their years of service, higher education achievement, level of fire office certifications, and recognition for additional credentials. Recertification requires an additional 24 hours of approved training every three years.

Chief Smith has served as Fire Chief for Camden County Rescue and the City of Kingsland since August 2018 through intergovernmental services agreements. Chief Smith has worked full-time in public safety for over 30 years and became a fire chief in 2014. He received his initial certification in 2017.

Chief Boyett has worked for CCFR since February 1999 and currently serves as the Deputy Chief. With this achievement, she joins Chief Smith and Battalion Chief Tina Ingles as one of three fire officers to reach this milestone within Camden County Fire Rescue. There are 263 fire service personnel with this designation statewide.
