The City of St. Marys will be doing its part to make the holiday season special for residents in our area at Georgia’s hospitals serving persons with mental illness and developmental disabilities / behavioral health needs. Cities across Georgia have brought joy to patients at Georgia’s Regional Behavioral Hospitals through the Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade started by Georgia Municipal Association in cooperation with Governor Ernest Vandiver and his wife Betty Vandiver. This event is now organized by the hospital and depend on citizen participation in each city to donate gifts for the patients. Many would not receive gifts or be recognized without the Mayors’ Motorcade. According to hospital staff, many of the patients at these hospitals have little, if any, support or contact with friends and family.
Donations will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, December 5th and will be delivered to the hospital which services our area (Georgia Regional Savannah).
Mayor John F. Morrissey, City Manager Robert Horton, Jr. and City personnel from various departments will deliver the gifts. Civic organizations, businesses, churches, scout troops and individual citizens are encouraged to help with the collection of gifts for the Mayors’ Motorcade.
Donations can be dropped off at the following locations by 4:30 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2022.
