Southeast Georgia Health System Welcomes Evan Fountain, M.D. to Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Pulmonary Medicine

Southeast Georgia Health System is pleased to welcome Evan H. Fountain, M.D. to Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Pulmonary Medicine and the Brunswick Campus medical staff.

After graduating from the University of Georgia with a bachelor’s degree in biology, Fountain decided to combine his love of science and desire to help people by becoming a physician. He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. He then completed his internal medical residency training and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care there as well.

Fountain treats patients for a variety of lung related illnesses, such as respiratory distress syndrome, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension sarcoidosis (inflammation of the lungs), severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and tuberculosis.

According to Fountain, pulmonary disease can be very debilitating. “Patients have a hard time just doing basic activities of life, particularly if they are on oxygen. I think what’s important for me as their doctor is to understand what gives them meaning and purpose in life, and once I get to know them, we can target their treatment approach in order to optimize their ability to do the things that matter most to them.”

Growing up in Glennville, Georgia, Fountain chose to plant his roots at Southeast Georgia Health System so he and his wife, Victoria, can be close to their families. An interesting fact about his family is that they are the world’s largest growers of Vidalia sweet onions. Chances are, if you purchase a Vidalia onion, his mother’s family likely grew it.

In his free time, he and his wife love golfing and playing with their two dogs, Abraham and Yonah. He also enjoys baking and running.

Fountain joins a four-member team of physicians at Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Pulmonary Medicine in Brunswick. To learn more, visit sghs.org/pulmonary-medicine or call 912-466-5504.
