Southeast Georgia Health System issued the following announcement on May 3.

Southeast Georgia Health System Volunteer Services recently announced Margie Young as the Brunswick Campus Volunteer of the Year and Linda Jordan as the Camden Campus Volunteer of the Year. The awards were presented during National Volunteer Week, April 17-23, 2022.

Young has provided volunteer support in the Brunswick Campus Breast Care Center for eight years. Her primary responsibility is to assist with the hundreds of patient letters that are mailed each week. She also provides support with Volunteer Services projects. “Over the years, Margie has been very supportive of our volunteer program,” says Peggy Tuten, president, Brunswick Campus Volunteer Services. “She helped with the various fundraisers, projects and Gift Shop bake sales held prior to the pandemic.”

Young has volunteered extensively with Habitat for Humanity and is a former president of the Friends of the Library. In 2008, she received the YWCA Tribute to Women Leaders award, and she was recognized in 2009 and 2010 with the Habitat for Humanity Outstanding Volunteer Award. In 2015, she received the Charles Beard Library Advocacy Award for outstanding contributions to Georgia libraries. Young remains very active in helping to run the Brunswick-Glynn County libraries used bookstore. She and her husband, Dick, have two sons and two grandsons. In her spare time, she enjoys working in her yard, exercising, cooking and reading.

Jordan began volunteering at the Camden Campus Gift Shop in 2019. “Linda has been a wonderful addition to the Gift Shop team,” says Kathleen Worthing, president, Camden Campus Volunteer Services. “She is dedicated, reliable and very supportive to the rest of the team.”

Jordan has a background in accounting and was the bookkeeper at Murray Ford for many years. She is currently the bookkeeper at Our Lady Star of the Sea where she attends church. Jordan was recently installed as treasurer of the Camden Campus Volunteer Services board. In her spare time, Jordan enjoys reading, cooking (especially desserts) and reupholstering furniture.

During 2021, 137 adult volunteers contributed a total of 17,746 hours to the Health System, which equates to an estimated monetary value of $506,470, according to the Independent Sector. In addition, 14 teen volunteers completed 278 hours of volunteer service projects from their homes last summer. Volunteers also donated a total of $80,000 last year for projects that benefit patient care.
