Camden County - GA issued the following announcement on Jan. 13.
Two draft maps are now available online for the proposed Camden County Board of Commissioners and Camden County Board of Education districts. These draft maps were drawn by the Georgia General Assembly’s Legislative and Congressional Reapportionment Office to update the five districts in Camden County based on the population counted in the 2020 Census. Following each decennial Census Camden County must complete a redistricting process to balance the voting districts within our community. District boundaries will change to allow for population growth to be as equally distributed in each District as possible. Based off of the 2020 Census results, each of Camden County’s five districts would ideally have a population of 10,954 residents. New district boundary lines have been drawn to reflect shifts in population.
At their January 18, 2022, Regular Meeting, the Camden County Board of Commissioners will have a presentation to highlight the options available in the two draft maps. Camden County citizens are encouraged to make comments on redistricting via the Camden County website, www.camdencountyga.gov/redistrictingcomments. These comments will be shared with the Camden County Board of Commissioners.
Physical copies of the maps are now available during regular business hours at the Government Services Complex located at 200 E. 4th Street in Woodbine. Additional copies of the maps will be available during regular business hours beginning on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the following locations:
Camden County Board of Education, 311 S. East Street, Kingsland;
Camden County Public Library, 1410 GA Hwy 40 East, Kingsland;
St. Marys Public Library, 100 Herb Bauer Drive, St. Marys; and
Woodbine Public Library, 103 E. 8th Street, Woodbine.
It is anticipated that the Camden County Board of Commissioners will vote on the new district maps at their February 1, 2022, Regular Meeting. Following approval by the Camden County Board of Commissioners, the Georgia General Assembly must vote to pass the maps and send them to Governor’s office for signature.
