Southeast Georgia Health System issued the following announcement on Dec. 28.
Southeast Georgia Health System is pleased to welcome Gregory Kelley, M.D., physiatrist, to Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery and the Brunswick Campus medical staff.
From an early age, Kelley knew he wanted to work in health care. “I ultimately decided to pursue medicine after overcoming injuries from my athletic career. Learning from my own experiences, I understand the importance of regaining overall function and wellness,” says Kelley. “Helping my patients return to the hobbies and recreational activities they love is very rewarding.”
After earning a medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in St. George, Grenada, Kelley completed his internship for internal medicine at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. He then finished his residency at MedStar Health/Georgetown-National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington, D.C., focusing on physical medicine and rehabilitation.
“I believe that collaborating with patients as a team effort in their care achieves the best outcomes and satisfaction,” Kelley shares. “There’s no such thing as a ‘cookie cutter’ approach to medicine, and I treat each patient according to their own specific needs while taking into consideration their goals and wishes.”
Practicing physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), Kelley primarily sees patients with musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions, ranging from sports injuries to more significant debilitating illnesses, such as spasticity and headaches.
“I chose PM&R as my specialty because I enjoyed a variety of sciences during my medical training, including anatomy and biomechanics, sports medicine and neurology,” Kelley explains. “PM&R allows me to continue enjoying that variety in the patients and conditions I treat.”
When Kelley isn’t practicing medicine, he enjoys playing golf, biking, skiing and traveling with his wife. “A good day for me is being outside with my wife and our dog on a hike or bike ride, going out on the water, or enjoying a sunset walk on the beach.”
Kelley joins a four-member team of providers at Summit Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Surgery in Brunswick. To learn more, visit sghs.org/summit or call 912-466-7340 to schedule an appointment.
