The Brunswick Girls’ basketball team hosted the Effingham County Rebels on Dec. 14 and continued its dominating play with a 74-19 win for the fifth straight win to start the season 5-0.
Brunswick never trailed and jumped out early with a 23-5 lead after one quarter. The second quarter was a breeze as well for the Pirates, who saw themselves up 44-10 at halftime. Effingham County never found their footing in the second half as the team was outscored 12-8 in the third quarter and then limited to only a free throw in the fourth quarter to be outscored 18-1.
According to the team’s Twitter page, Shakardia Cowart led the team with 17 points. Shamya Flanders had 16 points and four boards. Shania Jones put up 12 points and four assists. Jamya West had 11 points, five boards, four assists and four steals.
The Pirates also had a solid 64-51 win over Glynn Academy on Dec. 10.
Brunswick led 17-13 after a quarter and continued to outplay the Terrors in the second frame to make it a 31-24 lead at the half. Brunswick had a big third quarter outscoring Glynn Academy 23-12 and despite Glynn coming back and outscoring the Pirates 15-10, Brunswick took the win at home to improve to 4-0.
According to the team’s Twitter page, Cowart scored 22 points and had four assists. Jones had 15 points, six steals and five boards. Flanders posted a double/double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
The Brunswick Girls’ basketball team has now outscored its opponents 353 to 154 this season.
