City of St. Marys issued the following announcement on Nov. 25.
In partnership with the Camden County Board of Commissioners, the City of St. Marys will use American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to temporarily pay ridership fees for the coaches operated by the Coastal Regional Commission in Camden County. On November 15, 2021, the City of St. Marys Mayor and Council approved $10,000 in funds to be utilized for this purpose, matching the $10,000 contributed by the County for a total of $20,000.
City of St. Marys officials are excited to partner with the County to be able to provide transportation access to the community at no cost to them. Paying ridership fees provides free access to health appointments, promotes food security, and connects people to employment services. The City also hopes to see a positive economic impact from bringing new and formerly isolated customers to the businesses of St. Marys.
Coastal Regional Coaches normally provide door to door services within Camden County for $3.00 per trip, and the amount of funds being committed from the joint partnership equals nearly all of ridership fees spent by Camden County riders in 2020. The City of St. Marys looks forward to the positive feedback from those who will benefit from this transportation support.
