Southeast Georgia Health System issued the following announcement on Nov. 10.
The Southeast Georgia Health System Camden Campus received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2021. This national distinction recognizes the Health System’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital.
“Achieving the ‘A’ safety grade requires the commitment of every member of our hospital team,” says Michael D. Scherneck, president and CEO, Southeast Georgia Health System. “From the physicians, clinicians and nursing teams to the administrative, food and environmental services, and our volunteers, each one is deserving of our thanks and congratulations for this exceptional achievement.”
Glenn Gann, vice president and administrator, Camden Campus, concurs with Scherneck. “Dealing with COVID-19 for the past 20 months has been very challenging yet all of our team members have put forth exceptional effort to live up to our mission to provide safe, quality care to meet the health needs of the communities we serve. I am very proud of our team members and everything they do. This is the hospital that our friends and family come to for care and we’re honored to be recognized for making their health and safety a priority.”
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the Southeast Georgia Health System leadership team and workforce for their commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”
