Brunswick’s dream season continued as they ran their record to 10-0 with a tough 21-18 victory over Effingham County. The Pirates, 6-0 in 6A Region 2 play, have now outscored their opponents 362-109 this season.
The Pirates overcame a suffocating Rebels defense and saw the Rebels take an early lead on a field goal to go on top 3-0 after one. The Pirates were unstoppable in the second and went on a 21-0 tear, but that was all they would get for the game, and they saw a 21-3 half-time advantage get cut to 21-10 after three and 21-18 at the final gun to hold off the Rebels for the win.
The Rebels limited the Pirates to only three completions all day, with senior Jeffery Ware connecting on 2 of 14 for 70 yards, including one of 51 yards to sophomore TJ Mitchell, and junior Sutton Ellis hitting on 1 of 3 for 13 yards. The ground game was also stifled to a 133-yard total, though senior Chuckobe Hill gained 89 on only 12 carries, one of which was a 53 yard gain. The team rushed 29 times and only junior Jayden Drayton joined Hill with a solid day of 20 yards on 5 carries.
On defense, senior Adam Mweemba was in on 10 tackles with six of them solos. Junior Kashawn Thomas had two of the team’s five sacks.
The Pirates take on the Region 4 Tucker Tigers (2-8) at home on Saturday in the Georgia High School Football playoff brackets.
