The Brunswick Pirates are 9-0 this season, and 5-0 in 6A Region 2 play, outscoring their opponents 341-91 in the process. Their 49-6 win Friday over winless Bradwell institute marked the sixth time the Pirates have scored more than 40 points in a game and the fifth game they won by 35 or more points. Their average score this season is 38-10.

The Pirates took command early, scoring 21 points in each of the first two quarters en route to a 42-0 half-time lead.  With reserves in place for the second half, Brunswick was ahead 49-6 after three, and played to a scoreless fourth quarter to maintain the score and the win.

The Pirates gained 256 in total offense, 161 in the air and 95 on the ground and included a 54-yard pass that ended inside the five, from quarterback Jeffrey Waye to TJ Mitchell, and a 20-yard touchdown run by running back Ree Simmons. Waye finished with 161 yards passing, Simmons with 72 yards rushing on nine carries and two TDs, and Chuckobe Hill ran for 23 yards and a TD on six carries.

The Pirates scored on their first possession, finished off by an 8-yard quick-cut by Hill. On the Tigers’ first possession a fumble recovered by Brunswick’s linebacker Devin Smith set up a TD run by Leon Charlton for a 14-0 Pirates lead.

A three-play drive near the end of the first saw Simmons score from 4 yards out for a 21-0 advantage.

A second-quarter blocked punt was recovered in the end zone by Adam Mweemba and it was 28-0 Pirates. The defense stepped up again and strip-sacked Tigers QB Armando Hall. Smith, on “D” picked up the loose ball and scored to make it 35-0.

Following that long 54-yarder from Waye to Mitchell, Pat Leggett legged a carry into the end zone from 2 yards away, for a 42-0 half-time lead.

Reserves were called upon from there, to gain experience for next year, and held their own in the second half to preserve the romp.

Brunswick travels to take on Effington County (6-2) on Friday.
