Camden County - GA issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.
Drivers in west central and southwest Camden County may be impacted by future improvements to unpaved roadways in the upcoming months. Earlier this month the Camden County Board of Commissioners approved $300,000 of rock material to apply to approximately 10-15 miles of unpaved roadways in unincorporated Camden County.
This purchase will include approximately 7,000 tons of rock material and is anticipated to have a major impact on unpaved roads. A typical Public Works budget includes 1,500 tons of rock material for the entire year. This purchase, funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST VII) dollars is over 4.5 times the typical amount.
Rock material is expected to arrive in September and additional notices will be given for replacement of cross pipes before rock installation. Thirteen roads will be part of the initial focus of the project as determined by road history and grading. This significant investments is projected to greatly improve the drivability for these residents.
“I am thankful for the Board of Commissioner’s investment in our unpaved roads,” said Public Works Director Shalana McNamee. “With the high rainfall amounts we have received this summer, it is timely and important to take steps like these to improve unpaved roads.”
The $300,000 in rock material is part of over $1.19 million in improvements approved by the Board of Commissioners in August. Fourteen paved roads in Districts 1, 2, and 5 will also be resurfaced as part of road improvements in SPLOST VII. Camden County maintains 165 miles of public paved roads and 131 miles of public unpaved roads.
