City of Hinesville issued the following announcement on Aug. 12.
Young people who engage with their local government often become active citizens as adults. In this spirit, the City of Hinesville created the Hinesville Youth Council in 2019. Since then, young men and women have actively contributed to the decision-making process of local leaders. As the new school year begins, the City is once again accepting applications from youth in grades 9-12 to serve on its Hinesville Youth Council. Applications can be found at cityofhinesville.org. The deadline to apply is Sept. 17.
“Bringing together youth and government can transform communities, including ours,” City Manager Kenneth Howard said. “We’re very excited to provide the Hinesville Youth Council program and look forward to engaging with our area’s youth.”
To be eligible to participate, youth must reside in the Hinesville city limits, attend a private or public school within Hinesville and Liberty County and be in good academic standing with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5. The Hinesville Youth Council is comprised of 12 seats, including 11 Councilmembers and one Clerk. Youth who are elected to the council must agree to a Coded of Conduct, commit to serving at least one full term of two years and attend a Swearing-In Ceremony. They must all attend routine Youth Council and Hinesville City Council meetings.
Serving on the Hinesville Youth Council is very rewarding according to pervious participants. Applications to serve on the council will be accepted until Sept. 17. For a complete application package that includes a schedule and list of requirements, visit cityofhinesville.org.
This program is offered through the City’s Clerks Office. To learn more about City, visit cityofhinesville.org. Stay up-to-date with the City by following @HinesvilleGA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
