Atrium Health Navicent recently issued the following announcement.
Atrium Health Navicent, Bibb County Schools, the Georgia Department of Public Health and Macon-Bibb County have partnered to hold a second back-to-school COVID-19 vaccination event on Saturday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Atrium Health Navicent Wellness Center. Appointments will be available at www.CovidsafeGA.org or by calling 478-633-SAFE (7233) beginning on Saturday, July 17. A parent or guardian must accompany minors to vaccination appointments.
“The fight against this deadly pandemic isn’t over. With the rise of the Delta variant and in-person instruction beginning next month, we hope that families will consider COVID-19 vaccinations as part of their back-to-school preparations,” said Atrium Health Navicent President and CEO Delvecchio Finley. “Atrium Health Navicent is proud to partner to provide critical protection for our children, their families, school staff and the community.”
In addition to first doses, second doses of the vaccine are scheduled to be administered for the children and adults who received shots during the partnership’s June 30 event. Those who receive first doses on July 24 may schedule second doses to be administered at Atrium Health Navicent Wellness Center on Saturday, Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“It’s important that we get our students back in school five days a week and that we are able to do that in a safe way,” said Bibb County School District Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones. “Vaccines have proven themselves to be one of the most effective ways to keep everyone safe, so I’m asking everyone who can get vaccinated to do so. We would like our students to be able to be successful and this is one way our community can come together to support the educational efforts in Bibb County.”
"With the school year approaching, these COVID-19 vaccination opportunities give parents a chance to give their student that extra level of protection in the classroom," said Dr. Reneé Haynes, District Health Director of North Central Health District. "The greater the vaccination rate in a community, the bigger that level of protection is for all community members."
The partnership is part of the Macon-Bibb Safe at Home, Safe at School, Safe at Work initiative.
“I’m proud we’ve had good turnout so far because that shows us our community understands we’re in this together,” said Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller. “I want to encourage everyone who is eligible to get their vaccinations because only together can we protect our children and each other.”
