City of St. Marys issued the following announcement on July 10.
The City of St. Marys is continuing to clean up from the aftermath of Tropical Storm Elsa, which spawned an EF2 tornado in the downtown area. The tornado’s path included areas of Norris St., Point Peter Rd. and on the Kings Bay Naval Base. After an initial assessment, the tornado affected 45-50 homes in the area. At this time, we ask that citizens avoid these areas while the clean-up continues. All other areas of the downtown are open.

VOLUNTEERS
Individuals or organizations that are willing to volunteer and help with the clean-up, please contact the Camden County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) at (912) 729-5602. If you need help at your residence with storm clean-up, please contact the EMA for further guidance.
BURN PERMITS
Please keep in mind that there is a City ordinance stating that you must receive a burn permit before you burn yard debris within the City limits. (Article III – Outdoor Burning; Sec. 50-66 to 50-74) To obtain a permit, call Fire Station 2 at (912) 882-6289 between the hours of 9am-2pm on the day you would like to burn. Additional quick facts:
• Only natural materials, such as trees, limbs, and leaves, may be burned.
• Burn area may be no less than 50 feet from any structures.
• It is recommended the burn area be kept to 4 feet by 4 feet with a water supply, such as a hose, nearby.
• Do not leave the fire unattended.
• The fire must be extinguished by sundown on the date the permit was issued.
YARD DEBRIS
Please make sure if you are putting yard debris and construction debris by the road for pick-up they must be in separate piles.
TRASH PICK-UP
Due to TS Elsa, trash pick-up was canceled for Wednesday, July 7th. To make that up, trash pick-up for Wednesday has been switched to Thursday. Trash pick-up for Thursday has been changed to Friday. Finally, trash pick-up for Friday has been moved to Saturday. If you have any questions, please contact the St. Marys Water Department at (912) 510-4001.
