Southeast Georgia Health System issued the following announcement on May 5.
One of the most common resolutions made each New Year’s Eve is to live a healthier lifestyle; but, after a few weeks or months, the best intentions often fade away. Southeast Georgia Health System health care professionals believe it’s never too late to learn how to improve one’s health and resolve to make healthy living a priority.
Southeast Georgia Health System invites the community to attend a free Community Health & Wellness Fair on Saturday, June 18, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Brunswick High School. In addition to free and low-cost health screenings, the event will include education on a variety of health and wellness topics, services and resources offered by community wellness leaders and Health System providers. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the prevention and treatment of common chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, balance disorders, cancer and much more.
Free Health Screenings – No appointment needed.
- Bone density
- Blood pressure
- Gait analysis (assesses walking style to identify hip, pelvis and ankle-related biomechanical abnormalities)
- Pulse oximetry (measures level of oxygen in the blood)
- Skin checks
- Vascular (detects blood vessel blockages that can put a person at risk of stroke or aneurysm)
Heart Health Screenings – Includes an electrocardiogram (EKG) and lipid profile for $25. Fasting (12 hours) and appointments are required for the lipid profile. Results will be mailed to participants. To schedule an appointment, call 855-ASK-SGHS (855-275-7447).
Breast Cancer Screenings – Scheduling a mammogram appointment is encouraged; however, walk-ins are welcome. Most insurance plans are accepted and financial assistance is available for qualifying patients. For an appointment, call 855-ASK-SGHS (855-275-7447).
Medication Reviews – Attendees are encouraged to bring all medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter, vitamins and supplements, for a one-on-one review with a licensed pharmacist to discuss possible side effects or medication interactions.
Teddy Bear Clinic – Children can bring in one of their stuffed dolls or animals to receive a check-up and some tender loving care for injuries, such as missing buttons or tattered arms and legs. Health System team members will also demonstrate a variety of medical treatments a child may encounter while at the doctor’s office or hospital.
