In the 2024-25 school year, Liberty County High School registered 563 African American students, reflecting a 3.8% decline compared with the prior year, records from the Georgia Department of Education show.
Figures indicated that the school had a total enrollment of 1,151 students in 2024-25. African American students represented 49% of the total, making them the largest demographic group in the school.
Located in the Liberty County School District, the school has its district headquarters in Hinesville.
Bradwell Institute reported the highest number of African American students in the district’s 12 schools, with 1,101 enrolled for 2024-25.
Data from the National Center for Education Statistics showed that Georgia’s public K-12 students were approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.
After the pandemic, chronic absenteeism has continued to challenge Georgia’s schools, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of school days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. To address this, GaDOE has started a statewide effort featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, awareness programs, and targeted resources for districts with high needs to promote better attendance.
In 2025, legislation was enacted in Georgia that updates school attendance policies, prohibiting expulsion based solely on absenteeism, sets new reporting standards, and aligns with pathways that allow students to earn diplomas through alternative programs.
Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio stood at roughly 14:1 in 2026, outperforming the nationwide average of 15:1.
