GA U.S. House District 1 issued the following announcement on May 9.
Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today announced his support for H.R. 6659, the Health Care for Burn Pits Veterans Act, recently introduced by Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL). He was joined by veteran’s groups in Georgia’s First Congressional District who support the bill, which will expand eligibility for VA care to post-9/11 combat veterans who were exposed to burn pits and other toxins during their military service.

This bipartisan, bicameral legislation would also advance research into the health effects of toxic exposure and improve training for VA health care and benefits staff.
“This legislation demonstrates that we have our veteran’s backs,” said Carter. “As Members of Congress, we have the power to provide aid to our heroes who are suffering from war’s wounds, both visible and invisible. We must get this bill to President Biden’s desk as quickly as possible so that impacted veterans may live their post-service life to the fullest.”
“Post-9/11 veterans who are suffering from the effects of toxic exposure have waited far too long to get the healthcare they deserve. The Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act is the right bill to connect them with life-saving care before it’s too late,” said Ranking Member Bost. “It’s past time for Speaker Pelosi to bring this good, bipartisan bill to the House Floor for a vote so that we can finally send it to the President’s desk to become law. I am grateful to have my friend, Rep. Carter’s support for it.”
The Health Care for Burn Pits Veterans Act is supported by veteran service organizations, including The American Legion, and is cosponsored by 93 Members of Congress. Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) has also introduced companion legislation, S. 3541.
