In the 2024-25 school year, Crooked River Elementary School registered 91 Hispanic students—an increase of 13.8% over the prior year, reports the Georgia Department of Education.

Enrollment figures indicate that out of 572 total students, Hispanic students represented 16% of the population and were the school’s second-largest group that year.

The campus is part of Camden County School District, which maintains its main office in Kingsland.

Within the 12 schools of the district, Camden County High School enrolled the greatest number of Hispanic students for 2024-25 with 253.

More than 1.7 million students attend public schools in Georgia, according to data from the state’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 education report. Most were in elementary (787,206 students, or 45.9%), with middle school enrollment at 388,733 (22.7%) and high school at 539,092 students (31.4%).

Chronic absenteeism has persisted in Georgia schools after the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, the Department of Education said. Efforts to improve attendance include a real-time dashboard, statewide awareness campaigns, and focused support in districts with the greatest need. GaDOE recently launched a multifaceted initiative to curb this trend.

Georgia’s legislature approved a change to school attendance laws in 2025, prohibiting expulsions for absenteeism alone, and introducing updated reporting duties along with expanded paths toward earning a diploma. Read more about it here.

As of 2026, Georgia maintains an average student-to-teacher ratio of roughly 14:1, better than the national rate of 15:1.
