Charlton County announced on Apr. 24 that it is accepting sealed bids for the Spanish Creek Box Culvert project, with submissions to be opened publicly at the Charlton County Courthouse Annex in Folkston, Georgia on May 26 at 11:30 am local time.

The bidding process allows contractors and interested parties to review all job specifications and requirements on the county’s Bid Postings page. The public opening ensures transparency in the selection process.

While infrastructure projects like this culvert are underway, Charlton County schools have experienced changes in student enrollment and demographics. Enrollment dropped by 3.3% during the 2022-23 school year compared to the previous year, according to the Georgia Department of Education. White students made up the largest group within Charlton County schools at 61% of the student body during that period, while Black students were the second most represented group at 28%, as reported by the same source.

Other groups included multiracial students who accounted for 7% of enrollment, Hispanic students representing 3%, and Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander students making up just 1%, all according to the Georgia Department of Education.

The upcoming bid opening marks a step forward in maintaining local infrastructure as demographic trends continue to shape Charlton County’s community profile.
