WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today proudly voted in favor of the strongest border security bill to ever pass through the U.S. House of Representatives, the Secure the Border Act, hours before Title 42 is set to expire and increase the flow of illegal border crossings, which already broke a single-day high on Wednesday of more than 10,000.

H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, will increase border security and combat illegal immigration by, among other policies, restarting border wall construction, hiring more border patrol agents, and closing the catch and release loophole that allows illegal immigrants to remain in the U.S.

“A nation without borders is not a nation. Biden is allowing Title 42 to expire without a plan in place to help our already overwhelmed border patrol agents. He is pouring gasoline on one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, which is responsible for record high levels of child trafficking and illicit fentanyl poisonings,” said Rep. Carter. “We need H.R. 2 for the safety of our communities, families, border patrol agents, and nation so that the border crisis does not become a border catastrophe.”

Additionally, H.R. 2 will:

  • Deploy technology to the southern and northern border
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay
  • Require transparency regarding illegal crossings from the Department of Homeland Security
  • Strengthen current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking
  • End abuse of executive immigration authority
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process
