Camden County – GA issued the following announcement on June 1.

Atlantic Hurricane Season is from June 1st – November 30th. As a coastal community, it is important that all Camden County residents take steps to plan ahead before tropical weather is projected to affect our area. The 2022 Camden County Hurricane Guide is a good place to start learning about the steps you and your family should take to prepare for possible tropical activity.

History teaches that a lack of hurricane awareness and preparation are common threads among all major hurricane disasters. By knowing your vulnerability and what actions you should take, you can reduce the effects of a hurricane disaster. The goal of this Hurricane Preparedness page is to inform the public about the hurricane hazards and provide knowledge which can be used to take ACTION.

This information can be used to save lives at work, home, while on the road, or on the water. Hurricane hazards come in many forms: storm surge, high winds, tornadoes, and flooding. This means it is important for your family to have a plan that includes all of these hazards.

CodeRED

Camden County Emergency Management Agency utilizes CodeRED to provide emergency notifications and severe weather warnings to registered residents. The CodeRED Emergency Notification System is a high volume – high speed Communication Service available for mass Emergency Notifications. CodeRED employs a one-of-a-kind Internet mapping capability for geographic targeting of calls, coupled with a high speed telephone calling system capable of delivering customized pre-recorded emergency messages directly to homes and businesses at the rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour. Camden County residents are strongly encouraged to sign-up to receive notifications.

Hurricane Registry for Those with Function, Access, or Medical Needs

The Camden County Health Department maintains a Hurricane Registry which is made up of residents who may require transport and medical assistance during a hurricane evacuation and have no other resources such as family, friends, neighbors, or church members to help them if they need to evacuate. Residents must apply to be on the registry. To apply, residents should call the Camden County Health Department at 912-576-3040 (Woodbine) or 912-882-8515 (St. Marys). Applications are required to be added to the Hurricane Registry.
