Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 7.

The Brunswick Golden Isles would like to congratulate Mike Scherneck on his retirement from Southeast Georgia Health System and extend a heartfelt thank you for the friendship and support you have shown the Chamber and our entire community.

Your nearly two-decade commitment to the Health System is remarkable and your tireless leadership through the COVID-19 pandemic did not go unnoticed. Ralph Staffins shared his feelings on Mike, “I wholeheartedly respect and admire Mike’s ability to not only lead our Chamber and community, but to do so during one of the most challenging times. You delivered on your commitment in investing resources to provide more than 35,000 COVID-19 vaccinations to area residents.”

The Chamber is proud to have your service as the Chairman of our Board of Directors and your unwavering guidance and knowledge over the years as we push forward and promoted progress and change in our community. You have shown how the community and Chamber are truly better together.

We wish you the absolute best in your retirement and look forward to working with you more in the years to come.
